Presidential elections in Chile

Chileans will vote for their next president on November 17. Ten candidates will compete in the election  - three of them are women (30%).

Miranda Roxana Meneses is the candidate of the Igualdad party and has experience in local and national politics. Evelyn Matthei  represents the  Independent Democratic Union party (Unión Demócrata Independiente) and has vast experience in Chilean politics. She served as Minister of Labour between 2011-2013.

Finally, Michelle Bachelet former President of Chile between 2006 and 2010 will run again as the candidate of the Coaltion of parties for Democracy (Concertación de Partidos por la Democracia). Between 2010 and 2013 Bachelet was the Executive Director of UN Women.

The Chilean National Congress currently comprises 17 women MPs, representing 14.17% of all parliamentarians.
